One Final Gift to Put Under the Tree
Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays! In the spirit of the season, I wanted to give you all my own small present: the long-awaited and much-rumored Damian story, Only the Dead Remain.
Set during the time gap between the last chapter and the epilogue of One Tin Soldier, this is a very short, relatively bleak tale that I hope you all will nonetheless enjoy. I certainly had fun writing in Damian’s voice again!
For those who haven’t yet read The Murder of Crows, Only the Dead Remain might not make a ton of sense. I didn’t spend much (or any) time bringing readers up to speed in this one, and it deals with events toward the very end of the trilogy. With that in mind, I’d suggest skipping this story until you’ve read the main novels. (Coincidentally, See These Bones is on sale in the US for $0.99 today and this week, and will be on sale in the UK starting on Tuesday. Weird how that worked out!)
If you prefer the John Smith books and are currently feeling just a little bit left out, I have a Bill-focused short story in mind for next Christmas that I think will make you very happy! But first, I have to write A Dead Man’s Favor, better known as The Many Travails of John Smith, book 5!
For everyone else, you can download your free copy of Only the Dead Remain via StoryOrigin here. I’ve provided PDF, epub, and mobi versions. If you’re not sure how to copy (or send) an epub/mobi to your digital reader, I’d suggest grabbing the PDF!
Happy Holidays to all of you, and thank you for a great year. I hope you’re each able to find some peace, some calm, and a lot of joy as we head toward another new year.
