2018 is almost over, and 2019 is waiting out there somewhere in the weeds, flush with unknown potential and (presumably) bad intentions. Before the new year arrives, I thought it would be fun and topical to look back on the year that was.
Next week, I’ll cover the three 2018 accomplishments I’m most proud of, and the week after that will detail three challenges I’ve struggled with all year. But this week, we’re going with something a little simpler; cold, hard, analytical data.
That’s right… in a blatant case of Instagram-copying, I’m sharing this site’s five most viewed posts in 2018.
My Top 5 Posts of 20181
#5: Summer 2018 Wrap Party, Part 3: The Neverending To-Do List
Because people prefer to-do lists and really, really long blog post titles.
#4: The World’s Briefest Status Update
Because some people would rather see a .gif with Sad Thor than read a few thousand words.
#3: Summer 2018 Wrap Party, Part 1
Because everyone loves parties2.
#2: The Month That Wasn’t
Because everyone loves a mystery?
And finally… the most viewed post of 2018…
#1: 5 Things I learned From Posting My Fiction Online
Because clickbait headlines really do work. Dang it.
For the last post of 2018, I’ll be looking back at my successes and failures for the year. Look for that post on Dec 28!
Footnotes
-
A few caveats…
I didn’t include any of my fiction posts because one would expect those posts to be the majority of the site’s highly ranked content. And thankfully–for my own piece of mind, if nothing else–that was the case this year.
I also filtered out all of the static pages… Who Am I, What Have I Written, and the always-popular Home page / Archives. As you’d also expect, they ranked highly.
- Just… not Part 2 of said parties. (For some reason, that post scored significantly fewer views.)
